CyanogenMod 9 Brings Ice Cream Sandwich To HP Touchpad

CM9 better known as CyanogenMod Ice Cream Sandwich, is an after market build of android. CM7 (Gingerbread) was ported to the HP Touchpad not too long ago. CM9 was being promised back in December for a possible January release of a build. Well January is here and with it we have the promised CM9 Alpha 0. The Alpha this time around is not like the first Alpha for the Touchpad. A whole host of features don’t work and it’s almost better to download CM7 at this point. Although i’m sure in the coming months that will all change. Click the source link below and navigate your way to delicious ICS if you so choose.

Where are all the Netbooks? Over there in the Corner

Where are all the Netbooks? Over there in the Corner.

This is what happens when a technology falls. Consumer interest and want control the market constantly. When something more shiny (ok sometimes more innovative) comes along and seems to do more than the previous technology. The latter falls.

As for Netbooks, this has come quite gradually and without warning that someone realized “Hey, the netbook sales are worsening month over month.”

When this realization hit it still took time for the reality to come into focus. Netbooks. Which have been taking the stage for quite awhile now, have all but disappeared. This obviously begs the question, what happened?

Of all the news articles I have read on this I have never heard an explanation I think turns the page for Netbooks, i’m not about to give one either. By some elemental law there must be an explanation for this steady decline of one of the most influential devices in this decade, but there’s really nothing solid.

When you ask someone (Techie) about Netbooks they might say “Oh I bought a Tablet”. Tablets have been blamed for the netbooks failure at the end, but I think there’s more.

Tablets have come up unsurprisingly right after the iPad. The with the iPad Apple made sure they got tablets right, providing access to not only a giant app store, but also tablet specific apps of which Apple has plenty. Android tablets also chipped away at market share, but in my opinion Android cannot stand up to the height that iOS can. While the iPad is certainly a great tool I think it’s interest spawned from the fact that it was more user friendly, not more compatible. When I go to school everyday I open up my Netbook and use Word and other applications that only run on pc’s. This makes it so I can easily use all of my schools resources while having my own. With a tablet you can’t do that and I think that’s something that was missed. Why? because schools adapted. Some at least, but enough that Netbooks took a hit and their target audience started vanishing. So yes, before I go on I think that Tablets played a big role, but not a center role. Schools converted their systems and allowed their students to access wifi and provided utilities to connect their iPads. Adults who simply used the internet didn’t need to be carrying things around so they simply bought a 3g iPad and were set. The elimination of an audience I agree was a strong point, but not the only one.

IT’S NOT SHINY. I’ve said it and it’s true with netbooks, there’s no shiny anymore. With the iPad I can interact directly with TOUCH. I can “touch” the object I am manipulating, and that right there is the concluding reason that not only have Tablets taken over, but tablets have taken the shiny aspect of things and made it point directly to them. The Netbook is no more. I do realize that I’ve countered myself, but I still think that the little piece of pie that netbooks have is important.

HP Announces Beats, Beats, and more Beats.

Well HP doesn’t seem to be taking it’s partnership with Beats by Dre too seriously (sarcasm). They only included beats in their new envy refresh (with dedicated red marking), they also went ahead and made an entire laptop that blatently places the “b” logo on the top. They didn’t take it too seriously. (sarcasm should be obvious).
Obviously HP is fully embracing their partnership with Beats and the audio quality on those laptops should probably be great if not very good.
However that’s not really what I’m going to use this article to talk about. Inside of the HP Envys sits the standard intel i3, i5, and i7 cpus. Following that we have anywhere from 6-9 gigs of RAM . That’s crazy. One thing many people don’t know is that ram can only help so much. Battlefield 3 at ultra setting requires 8 gb or ram. With todays technology some computers can go to 32! Now to many that may seem great, but something to think about is this. Your computer is only as good as it’s weakest part. If you have a crazy amount of ram in your computer, but an i3 for a cpu. Your not going to be able to use the full extent of your ram. Some people may argue that ram constantly speeds up apps. Yes it does, but only to a certain extent. Just like iTunes is designed to work on 32 bit processors. Programs can only handle so much ram. Many tasks a program has can only be handed off to the cpu. Which makes for a slow computer even if you have a good amount of ram. I make this poinr because I hear many people going out to buy crazy amounts of ram for their computer. 8gb is a lot. 4gb will provide you with fast web. And 6gb is great for almost anything. My reccomendation? Average user 4-6gb. Anybody who needs faster? 8gb. 16 and even 32 is just crazy and eventually you will find the limitations of your cpu. That’s all for this post. Android On HP Touchpad

Well it’s here, abeit in Alpha form, but for those of you like me who decided to buy the Touchpad at the $99 price. You just got a huge return on your investment. I have to say that being in it’s Alpha stage it’s not perfect, but boy is it pretty. Currently on my homepage I have the Analog clock with Nexus Live Wallpaper and a shortcut to Übersocial. Speed wise I could boot into Android, tweet, and read my timeline before webOS even gave me the option to open Spaz HD. I honestly only go into webOS for some exclusive games and for Quickoffice. Quickoffice for webOS is just about as polished as iWork, the Android version is… Well you can type. If you want to do anything else though it’ll take a few taps. QO for webOS though is everything you could want. Install the Box.net app and create an account on the Touchpad to get 50gb free then upload your QO docs and you can edit them anywhere. “Insert possibly the best adjective in the world here” to describe QO webOS. Anyways back to Android, in terms of hardware there still needs to be some adjustments, vibrate doesnt always work, wifi can be erratic, the list goes on. Otherwise it’s basically like another android device. Abeit one with a dual core 1.2 ghz processor and 1gb of RAM (basically a powerhouse tablet better then the iPad 2), but an android nontheless. I will post the link to the rootzwiki article in an update. DISCLAIMER: This is NOT for the faint of heart/Technologically challenged.
